Confirmed... we're crazy
Well, how do you hold a cat so you can trim their nails? How can the vet do it? It think they threaten them! Finally, we wrapped him in a towel, put out one paw and tried to clip. We got one clipped, found that one was actually pulled off. By the time we were trying to clip a third one, he had the other front paw free. We finally decided that it might be worth a trip to the vet instead of us fighting with him. I wish he would sharpen his nails like Callie does, that would keep them trimmed, although she has destroyed a small part of our house since that is what she is using. I’ll have to include pictures!

Hanging by a thread
OK, time for another trip to the vet. Buddy’s nails are just toooooooo long. Twice now, he has gotten himself caught on the couch and was there crying and Callie is hissing and oh my… time for a clipping. Maybe we’ll get some clippers? Am I crazy???

Must be Spring
OK, I think I’m going to start waking the cats up every time I see them sleeping during the day. It appears that night time is the time to run around chasing each other, playing hide and seek, hissing and fighting. Unfortunately, IT’S SUPPOSE TO BE MY TIME TO SLEEP!!! They just don’t see it that way. Now Callie has a new game. She hides from Buddy and he spend 30 minutes searching for her meowing at the top of his voice! He can be a very lonely cat at times. He finds her and then the race part beings which usually includes running OVER me one after the other. Guess that just makes the chase more of an adventure… for them anyway. Though I must say that there is nothing like an adrenaline rush from being wakened from a sound sleep by two cats using you as a race track. Takes your breath away… right!

Gone Quilting
Well, I’ve been gone for a few days and when I got back I felt like I was really missed. Buddy spent a lot of time on my lap and Callie had her time also. I missed them both!! Good to be home, but I’ll be leaving again for Walla Walla in two days.

Something New
OK, I sleep in a recliner (back problems) and now I’ve woken up a few times thinking what is in my face! Then I realize there is a cat sleeping on my chest. I guess sometimes a lap just won’t do, but have you ever gotten a mouthful of very fine cat hair? Not pleasant. We’ll have to work on this one.

Incredible Exploding Cats
So… you’re walking around the house and suddenly you see a small circle, about 8 inches in diameter of cat fur. It’s only a ring of fur, none on the inside of the circle… just a ring of fur. What can this be??? I’m finding them everywhere. It took some detective work, but I finally figured it out. I call them small cat explosions. I guess with the weather getting warmer now, they are starting to shed so as they sit and lick and chew on themselves, the shed small amounts of hair. Of course none falls where they are sitting so, hence… small cat explosions. I think I’m going to explode if they don’t finish shedding! I think they’ve each lost a small cat already!!!

Gone to Mars
OK, so Callie really likes to go outside, she enjoys it. Buddy still enjoys chasing her throughout the house. So today, when I opened the door to let Callie out, Buddy chased her right out the front door. When he realized what he had done he stopped dead in his tracks. I held the door open and told him to come back in, but he looked at me like I had two heads!!! Then he ran and hid under the truck. I kept trying to coax him into the house, and he did his “stretching cat thing” where his back feet stay in one place and he front ones advance. He got close to the front door, then ran back under the truck. So… I gave up on him and closed the door. Then, I went to the back door, opened it and whistled for him (yes, they humor us with some dog attributes just to keep us happy) and here comes this little black and white bullet cat from around the other side of the house! He comes flying into the dining room and looks at me and starts to tell me… “Mom… I was outside and some strangers were trying to make me come in their house… I was scared… but I didn’t go in… then you called me and I came right away… they didn’t get me!!” How do I tell his poor creature that it’s OK to go out that door… it’s the same big world, it’s NOT Mars. He panics if you put him outside from the front door, and he worries about Callie when she goes out that way. If he sees her go out that way, he sits by the door for a long time after she goes!!! How did we ever become cat people???

Bondage not bonding
Oh well, today Buddy came to me with a big bloody scratch on his nose. I told him it’s partially his fault. If he didn’t chase her, she wouldn’t swing at him. Not sure he understands.
Also, seems like Buddy’s “attitude adjustment” has worked a little too well. He doesn’t want to go outside anymore at all. We’ll have to work on that.

Spoke too soon
OK, so I spoke too soon. Last night I found both cats sleeping on the couch. Of course I could see that Callie was sleeping with one eye open, but they were within a foot of one another. Can we actually be bonding????

Two Cat Lap
OK… there is a new ritual at our house. When Bruce and I get home from work, we usually take just a few minutes to sit and relax. Me in the recliner, him on the couch. Immediately, Buddy jump up into my lap and sits facing Bruce, and Callie jumps up on Bruce’s lap and sits only on his left leg with her back to him facing Buddy and I. You can almost hear them saying… “This one’s mine and you can’t have them!”. I’m not sure we’ll ever seem them both on the same lap, that would be just toooooooo close for comfort.

Happy Leap Year!
Things have been going well. Buddy really wants to play and Callie wasn’t nothing to do with that. Although she is a little stinker. She tries to get him in trouble. She will parade past him and if he doesn’t see her and chase her, she goes past him again. Then he runs after her and she turns and hisses at him and at times takes a swing at him. Interesting. Oh, and the most important thing to note. Cats sleep about 18 hours a day… operative word… DAY, which means most of this mayham happens between 1am and 4am. Nice.

Drug Cats
Oh boy… I guess we’re pushers. We have discovered catnip… or I should say we discovered it, but have been enticing the cats with it. Buddy can’t get enough of it and after a few minutes just lays on the floor looking at us upside down with a “my you look funny this way” look in his eyes. Callie isn’t interested in the catnip at all, but does like the way it mellows out Buddy. She has a few minutes of no hissing! So interesting to see two cats acting so differently, but then again… cats are people too, so I shouldn’t be surprised they have different personalities.

The Little Bugger is back
We’re back!!! Callie isn’t thrilled and Buddy is walking gingerly, but all is well with the world! Now we’ll see if the “attitude adjustment” will stop his mini vacations with the neighborhood females. We’ll see as time goes on.

Doing well
We heard today that they had extra time yesterday and that Buddy actually had his surgery on the 12th!!! He’s doing well and will be ready for us on Monday to pick him up. I miss the little bugger.

Back in the box again...
We were able to get Buddy into the box AGAIN without any problems. I know eventually he figure it out, but in the meantime it makes my job a lot less stressfull!!! We told him he is going to the spa and will be spending a few days with them. Callie again sat there snickering. She told us she will feel like it’s a vacation for her also. She told us she would be willing to pay to keep him on a permanent vacation. We let us know… he’ll be back.

CatLand
Well, things have been moving along in CatLand. Why on earth did we think we could handle two cats? We finally have the food situation figured out. Callie has her bowl in the kitchen, Buddy has his by the back door. The water they share. It’s funny each one goes to look at the other ones food supply. They don’t take from each others… just checking to make sure they are getting the same I guess. Looks like we’re scheduling the “attitude adjustment” for Buddy for Feb 13th. The vet told us we could bring him in on the 12th and he’ll stay through the weekend. They have you bring them a day early and they don’t make you pay for boarding that night. It appears that sometimes the cats hear through the cat grapevine that they are going to the vet and the reason for the visit and they tend to go on vacation!! This is a trip I won’t be looking forward to… especially getting him into the box again.

Happy New Year... a little late
Well, Buddy has been spending a lot more time in the house. He’s actually doing overnight visits now! He and Callie don’t really see eye to eye on most things. He wants to play and she DOES NOT! There is a lot of hissing coming out of Callie. And… did you know that cats growl???? I’ve got to tell you… I had NOT idea until Callie was sitting on my lap and Buddy wanted to visit also. Scared me to death. Couldn’t figure out where that noise was coming from! I’m hoping they will learn to like each other a little more as time goes on.
